Vodafone 4G takes off at London Stansted Airport

London Stansted Airport is growing and it needs the connectivity to grow with it. Thankfully, the airport now enjoys strong and reliable Vodafone 4G following the installation of a dedicated in-building mobile coverage system, as a result of work with one of the company’s infrastructure partners, Wireless Infrastructure Group (WIG).

The improvements mean Vodafone customers – either travelling through its terminal or working on site – now have access to both fast mobile data speeds and better call quality. The dedicated coverage will also support the businesses based across the airport by supplying the essential connectivity needed to support tools such as ePOS (electronic Point of Sale) systems and digital marketing campaigns.

The news comes as Vodafone celebrates being named London’s Best Network by NET CHECK for the second year running. It’s also part of Vodafone’s ongoing investment in its London network to ensure it can keep up with the capital’s evergrowing demand for mobile data. This includes dedicated coverage solutions installed in both Westfield shopping centres, Battersea Power Station, and busy stadiums such as Tottenham Hotspur and Wembley Stadium. There’s even 4G and 5G across large parts of the London Underground and the Elizabeth line due to Vodafone’s partnership with Transport for London (TfL) and Boldyn Network.

Andrea Dona, UK Network Director at Vodafone, said: “London Stansted is a busy UK travel hub and with its expansion plans, it’s only going to get busier. Which is why, as The Nation’s Network as well as London’s Best Network, it’s been an absolute pleasure to support them with the introduction of our strong and reliable 4G coverage. The airport now has the building blocks it needs to support its growth, as well as service its passengers and business vendors going forward.”

Andy King, Sales Director for Indoor Networks at WIG, said: “At WIG, we are long established as delivering high-quality and sustainable indoor connectivity solutions in venues with high demand such as airports, so we were well-aware of the challenges of delivering a new system in one of the UK’s busiest airports. It’s great to see our solution enabling exceptional mobile services and benefiting everyone at Stansted Airport, and we’re delighted to have worked to deliver this indoor network.”

In December 2024, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) approved the combination of Vodafone and Three in the UK. The merger will deliver 5G Standalone to 99% of the UK population, investing £11 billion in the UK across 10 years, creating one of Europe’s most advanced 5G networks and delivering up to £5 billion a year in economic benefit by 2030.
